Services offered:

My name is Kristen Gibson.  I am an advanced student midwife, certified doula, and childbirth educator serving Roanoke and all surrounding areas. 

Personal:  I am a homeschooling wife and mother of ten children.  I have given birth six times in the hospital and four times at home with assistance of local midwives;  my last birth was a waterbirth.  I am a firm supporter of breastfeeding and have nursed each one of my children.  

Professional:  I received my doula certification and childbirth education training through ALACE (currently known as To Labor).  I began working towards my midwifery certification in 2008 though I began attending births (home and hospital) and teaching childbirth in February of 2006.  Typically, I attend 1-3 births a month and teach 1-2 childbirth class series a month.

I am experienced in supporting first time moms,  subsequent moms,  VBAC's (vaginal birth after cesareans), natural births and medicated births, and moms whose partners are unable to be present during the delivery.  I have also attended mothers in both hospital births and homebirths. 

Currently, I serve as the breastfeeding and childbirth instructor for the Blue Ridge Women's Center.  I am also a member of the local Roanoke Homebirth Meetup.
