What do postpartum services consist of?
Postpartum doulas provide their services in the home of the mom to ease the transition into motherhood. It might be the new mom who might need some extra help and support with breastfeeding and newborn care. Or it could be an experienced mom who needs assistance with a bit of cleaning, cooking, or childcare for a couple of hours to get a much needed nap! We will work with the mom to make those first few weeks a pleasant bonding period with her newborn. Usually, the postpartum doula is requested for 3-4 hours a day for once or twice a week during the first weeks postpartum, however, the frequency will vary depending on the mother's and family's needs at that time.
I have eight children ranging in ages from 14 to 3 months. During this time, I have learned that new babies, unfortunately, do not come with instruction manuals! It is crucial for the new mom to gain her wisdom and confidence in these "new" areas from other supportive, experienced mothers as well as other resources (care providers and lots of reading). I have experience in breastfeeding (I have breastfed all eight of my children), newborn care, home maintenance, and caring for older children.
